About Kathryn

As a creative director and copywriter working cross functionally and across industries, my approach relies on empathetic leadership, close collaboration with designers, and a knack for getting straight to the heart of a brand with storytelling and stand-out creative.

Midwestern roots

I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska — instilling in me a genuine kindness and also a real desire to see other places. So at twenty-years-old, a few days after earning a degree in Biology, I packed my car and moved to western Massachusetts.

I’ve been cultivating my east coast alter ego ever since.

The pivot

In 2010, I earned a Master of Urban Planning degree and started work in the real world. It was there that I discovered the key to my career — that not everyone can write well. Before long, I realized that the thing I liked best about my job was the thing I did the least. I loved to write. I even loved to copy edit. Taking someone else’s words and finding ways to make them sound and read better became one of my favorite pastimes.

Getting creative

In 2015 I started work at my first design agency, and found that the intersection of copy and design was my sweet spot. By 2016 I had started my own freelance communications business and started working closely with designers as both a copywriter and creative director. In 2017, a client became my full-time employer, and I’ve been in the mix with a staggering variety of global and local brands ever since.

Just being

On breaks from parsing copy and overanalyzing the location of type on a page, I love to spend time wandering the great outdoors, solving the Monday edition of the NYTimes crossword puzzle, and strategizing new ways to make people laugh.

Call me and I’ll try it on you.
