Black Birch Vineyard:
Bloom No. 19
Brand Strategy // Naming
Black Birch Vineyard, our long-term client, came to us with a new wine that needed a name and label design. The wine was unique, having started as a mistake by the winemaker. As he was contemplating throwing gallons of wine away, he came up with the idea to use the wine in a way that he hadn’t planned. The fermentation process had created effervescence, so he decided to bottle the wine and market it as a bubbly aperitif.
As the brand strategist and senior copywriter on the project, I worked with the team to arrive at the name BLOOM, No. 19 — inspired both by the floral notes of the wine and the oleanolic acid that forms on the grapes during the growing process (this substance is known as the bloom). The packaging design flowed from there, capitalizing on the color of the wine in the bottle that brings life to the florals.
I did this work as part of a team at BRIGADE.
